Tip of the Day – 8/31/09

When purchasing live rock, be sure to double check for hitch hikers. Some will be good, some will be bad…but the bad ones are usually terrible tank guests and can be very difficult to remove. Please Support Our Sponsors:

New Deltec Skimmer Video – Deltec Gunk

Here is some more footage of the new series of Deltec Skimmers we wrote about back in May. This is a video of the skimmate gunk left over in the collection cup after being run for a while. It’s very dark and nasty looking stuff and people seem to be pleased with this skimmer’s performance.

So be sure to stay tuned for the remainder of the article… In Anatomy of a Reef Aquarium – Part 1, we discussed setting a budget for your reef aquarium build and determining the type of [...]

Tip of the Day – 8/28/09

Want to shorten the cycle on a newly setup aquarium? If so, a good method is to do large and frequent water changes. This will remove the buildup of excess ammonia and nitrites and allow the nitrifying bacteria to work more effectively.

Georgia Aquarium Video

Another great video care of YouTube, this is a four and a half minute clip of the stunning Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium is over 6 million gallons and houses two whale sharks…which just so happen to be the largest fish in the world. Now, on to the video clip…
