When rigging up equipment like Auto Top Offs or other dosing devices, be sure that they are fail safe. Equipment is very likely to fail, so plan for that. Make sure that if the equipment does fail, it will do so and leave your aquarium relatively unaffected.

Want to prevent that nasty, exotic, and hard to kill algae from getting into your aquarium? A good method is to use dried live rock when starting your setup. The dried rock will not have any living creatures on it, so you won’t transfer those creatures into your aquarium.

Tip of the Day – 9/27/09
Always level out an aquarium prior to filling it with sand, water, and live rock. If the stand or tank are not level and a gap develops, structural failure of the aquarium could occur. I’ve seen plenty of cracks develop on aquariums from the stand not being level.
