Tip of the Day – 9/22/09
Be sure to check with your local water department for information regarding the content of your tap water. Some municipalities are starting to add chloramines to their water…which is very bad for your aquarium. The only way around this is to use an RO/DI water filtration system with some sort of chloramine filter built in. [...]
Crazy Bluespot Jawfish Colorations
I was doing a bit of picture hunting for the Better Left in the Ocean – Bluespot Jawfish article we wrote and I came across some photos I’ve never seen before. Better Left in the Ocean – Blue Spot Jawfish
The bluespot jawfish (Opistognathus rosenblatti) is a stunningly beautiful jawfish, but it suffers from very poor survivability in the home aquarium. The bluespot jawfish, also called blue spotted jawfish and a few other variations, is typically found on the eastern coast of the Pacific Ocean, and in particular the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortez). If you are ever offered a warranty on an expensive piece of equipment or an aquarium, take it! Even though you may never use it, it’s better to purchase it and not need it, than to have needed it and not purchased it. A lot of the time the vendor/manufacturer will replace the item.
ORA Blue Iris Acro on Live Aquaria!!!
At the beginning of September, we introduced the newest release from ORA called the ORA Blue Iris Acropora. At the time of the article, ORA hadn’t actually released any of the Blue Iris frags to any of the vendors. But now, Live Aquaria does have at least one of them…and it looks great. The pictures [...]

For example, some fish diseases and parasites are better left to the fish’s immune system instead of dosing the tank with tons of medications and other treatments. Determine the problem and monitor it as time progresses, but sometimes there’s just nothing you can do to [...]
Tip of the Day – 9/19/09
When moving an aquarium, make sure you have several people to help you. Aquariums can be quite heavy and they will break if dropped or carelessly bumped against virtually anything.
Tip of the Day – 9/18/09
Life will get hectic. But make sure to stay on top of all the little things involving your aquarium so that they don’t accumulate and turn into larger things.
