French Polynesian Maxima Clams on LiveAquaria
By: Brandon Klaus
LiveAquaria recently received a batch of some awesome looking (not so awesomely priced) French Polynesia Ultra Tridacna maxima clams recently and they are stunning. These Polynesian clams have a widely varying pattern and each individual looks significantly different than others. This is a bit unusual to me as it has been my experience that most clam importers receive a lot of clams that look very similar.

These clams are some of the best T. maxima clams I have ever seen. They have a lot more color and pattern variety than the typical T. maxima clam imported. The price LiveAquaria is putting on these clams ranges from a couple of hundred dollars to over $800.

how big can they get??
i’ve seen them for sale at fairly large sizes. typically larger than other maxima clams. i’m not sure on their absolute maximum size, but i’m assuming somewhere around 10-12″, as most maximas can potentially reach this size. it will take a long time to get to this length though.
