Injecting Aiptasia with Lemon Juice
Aiptasia are a nuisance anemone that reproduce quickly and sting nearby corals. If their populations go unchecked, Aiptasia can spread all over the aquarium and become almost impossible to remove. But I’ve found a great video demonstrating how to kill these pest anemones with common household supplies. In the following video, the aquarist injects each [...]
Tip of the Day – 1/27/10
Please don’t use artificial plants and corals in a saltwater tank. Sometimes coral or plant eating fish will mistake the decorations for real food and attempt to eat them. This can cause the buildup of plastics in the gut of the fish.
Tip of the Day – 1/26/10
If you have a nuisance fish or invertebrate harassing other livestock in your display tank, it can be temporarily relocated to your sump, provided it is large enough to house any livestock. Just be sure to monitor its activity as the move might be too stressful.

The National Coral Registry Association, or NCRA, is a site that promotes aquaculture through the registering (and subsequent selling) of corals that you grow in your own aquarium. Farmers name and send in a high resolution [...]
Tip of the Day – 1/25/10
If you’re installing a surround sound system in your home, keep it away from your aquarium as much as possible. The loud noises, if frequent enough, might startle fish to the point of causing them to continually hide in the rock work.
Tip of the Day – 1/24/10
Want to jump start your aquarium’s cycle? Simply add live sand or live rock from a previously established system to instantly add bacteria to your substrate.
Tip of the Day – 1/23/10
When mixing tangs in a large aquarium, it would be wise to not have two members of the same genus. For example, two Zebrasoma tangs in the same tank would probably fight with each other until one dies.
ZEOvit Reef Tank Video
Here is a stunning video of an SPS dominated ZEOvit reef tank. One could say that the colors are “enhanced”, but in reality these are the more natural colors of these corals. It may be a bit confusing, seeing as how the owner of this tank has had to dose quite a bit of chemicals [...]
