Electric Flame Scallop Video

The flame scallop is a very colorful bivalve that usually finds its way into the aquariums of naive or inexperienced aquarium keepers. They are a vibrant red color and filter phytoplankton and other microscopic organisms from the water. They are also extremely difficult to care for and should therefore not be purchased. But what’s so unique about the electric flame scallop (and probably the reason it’s purchased so much) is that it puts on a very entertaining light show. The mantel of this species seems to create electricity, which are bright enough to be seen even with the lights on.
