A Trip to the Coast…of Pakistan

A good friend of mine, who happens to live across the world in Pakistan, recently made a trip down to the coast on the Makran Coastal Highway. Keeping AquaNerd in mind, he snapped off several pictures of his trip, including beaches and even a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Wetlands Center. He has allowed us to use them in our discussion of this gorgeous landscape.
Makran Coastal Highway
As with many coastal cities, the main livelihood in Balochistan is fishing. But fisherman had a difficult time transporting their catch to markets in Karachi, as the fish would spoil sometime along the 6 to 7-day trip.

However, the new highway has improved people’s livelihoods by giving them the opportunity to sell fish in major markets in Karachi. In light of this, the Makran Coastal Highway was built as part of a plan to improve transport to southern Balochistan.
