[...] As for the hurricane and potential hurricane, North Carolina is bracing for impact and the Gulf Coast states are eying a tropical depression that is headed their way. Hurricane Earl, currently a Category 2 storm, is creeping toward the Carolina coasts. And though it’s probably too late for most of the coastal residents of these states to prepare for the looming hurricane, it serves as a reminder for others to Be Prepared! [...]

[...] The first hurricane of the season is here. Hurricane Alex, which became a hurricane Tuesday, made landfall yesterday just south of the Texas-Mexico border. While this storm doesn’t affect us directly, it surely reminds many of storms from recent years. During Hurricane Ike, the Texas-Louisiana coast was pounded hard, costing billions of dollars in damage and destroying reef tanks throughout the region. Keeping all this in mind, it’s time to get prepared for hurricane season. [...]

Great article Brandon - very helpful. Some more safety tips - gasoline is VERY dangerous. Follow proper safety precautions for handling and storing gasoline. Better yet, get a diesel generator.

Generators can kill. Watch out for CO but don't forget to watch out for other stuff. You need to disconnect from the powerline to your house, and you need to make sure that if you try to feed your house w/ the generator, you do it safely.

Heat is the number one "tank killer" imo, after low oxygen - as it contributes to low oxygen too. A window AC on the fishroom can help a LOT. If you tank hits 85+ you need to quickly take action.

Cheers
