Shark Fact of the Day – 8/3/2010

By: Brandon Klaus

There’s a shark that can actually chew off pieces of a submarine. The cookie cutter shark has a mouth that can cut circular holes into just about anything, including the soft rubbery exterior of a submarine. These sharks specialize in chewing off chunks of tuna, whales, and various other marine life. The cookie cutter shark has played havoc on the tuna industry. Fisherman would report hauling in catches of live tuna, only to find huge holes in the sides of the fish. This ruins the meat on the fish, rendering it basically unusable.
