One of the major drawbacks to owning a saltwater aquarium is the incredible amount of corrosion that can take place within your home. The salty environment of the of the tank and the humidity it cranks out can quickly rust metal items that are present in the same room, and if the humidity isn’t removed through central air conditioning, a dehumidifier, or opening up a window, then the rust an spread to other parts of the home. On top of that, the salt creep can travel out of the boundaries of the aquarium and ruin carpet and burn up electrical items. To prevent these issues, make sure to keep humidity levels down and clean up any excess salt.
